How to Play Snake

Steer the snake around the grid to eat the food that appears. Each piece of food grows your snake by one segment and spawns a new piece somewhere on the board. The run ends the instant you hit a wall or run into any part of your own body, so as you grow, planning your path becomes the whole challenge.

Sweep the edges

Riding the perimeter keeps the open space in the middle free for when you need to turn, and it makes your own tail easier to track.

Plan one move ahead

The snake never stops, so you cannot hesitate. Decide your next turn before you actually need it.

Do not box yourself in

As you get longer, watch where your tail is heading. A long body curled into a corner leaves you nowhere to go.

Check the route to each food

When food spawns, look at the path to it before committing. A straight line through open space is safe; cutting across your own coils is a gamble.

Loop smoothly on a long body

Sharp double-turns trap the head against its own segments. Wide, smooth loops give you room to reverse direction.

Slow is fine

The speed is constant, so there is no benefit to rushing your inputs. Deliberate turns beat frantic ones.
